Obituary for Michael Gerard Panzarella MICHAEL GERARD PANZARELLA 1956 – 2018 Michael Gerard Panzarella passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on July 16, 2018, at the age of 62. An extraordinary legal mind; a wonderful, Puckish brother; a doggedly loyal friend; and a generous and humane San Antonio citizen; Michael’s most proud role was as a father. Michael was born and raised in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
He graduated from the University of Rhode Island. Michael served in the United States Army. He spent the majority of his service working at the Pentagon in Army Intelligence.
After his service, Michael attended the University of San Diego School of Law, where he made law review. Michael practiced law in San Antonio from 1984 until the time of his death. He specialized in complex real-estate and business transactions.
During his career, Michael also authored and presented several continuing legal education articles for legal seminars. Despite his vaunted legal acumen, Michael should be no less professionally remembered for his generosity; and, not just to family and friends, but to many strangers. Few knew of the great number of pro bono legal matters he handled over his long career.
“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”. Matthew 25:40 Michael married Terri Schwope in 1992. The marriage produced the two most important people in his life, his children Brandon and Madison.
Infinitely curious, Michael was an avid reader, a gourmet cook of Italian dishes, a grand prankster, a proud family man, and a passionate optimist who worked to improve that part of the world he could repair. Michael and his family enjoyed many summer vacations in New England visiting family and friends and staying by the ocean. He especially loved fishing with Brandon and Madison.
He was like no other, before or after. He will be profoundly, lovingly missed. He is survived by his children Brandon Antonio Panzarella and Madison Gillianna Panzarella; his brothers Andrew Panzarella and Patrick Panzarella; and sisters, Mariann Impagliazzo, JoAnn Metcalf, Angela Tremmel, Meg Ward, Becky Panzarella and Cheryl Panzarella.
Michael is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Liborio W. Panzarella and Blanche F. Panzarella; and his brothers James Frances Panzarella and Joseph Panzarella.
