Obituary for Michael “Mike” David Herndon Print Michael (Mike) David Herndon, age 50, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Saturday, February 16th, 2019 on a surfing trip to Puerto Rico with friends. Mike was born in Wilmington, Delaware on November 11, 1968 to Gary Lee Herndon and Barbara Ann Beckom. Mike attended University of Washington and was a graduate of Rutgers in 1990.
He was an officer in the Coast Guard from 1991-1995. Mike was dedicated to the Financial Services industry for close to 30 years. He was an Executive at firms such as Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, NAVCAP and most recently the Executive Director Sterling Capital.
Sterling Capital was where he was able to combine both his corporate and entrepreneurial experience. Mike was the ultimate relationship builder. He had friends and colleagues from the East Coast to the West Coast.
Mike spent his time getting to know each and every co-worker and client and he always found the best in each of them. He never forgot a name and never lost a contact. His colleagues and clients became his friends, and his friends were considered his family.
Mike was a loving husband and devoted father who had an unmatched enthusiasm for life. His passion for music was evident as the front man for the garage band Under Arrested who performed to raise money for numerous charitable causes. Mike lived in many places over his life but his heart was always in Cape May, New Jersey where he grew up.
Mike enjoyed traveling especially to the Abaco Islands and Park City, Utah and spent his free time paddle boarding at New Smyrna Beach. Mike had a passion for sports and dedicated considerable time volunteering as a coach, board member and president of Delaney Park Little League. Mike was the most avid Rutgers fan on the planet and his passion was infectious.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Gary Lee Herndon and Barbara Ann Herndon; brother, Christopher Todd Herndon, and is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Anne Herndon; sons, Tyler Boone Herndon and Casey Beck Herndon; step sisters Nicole Gendron Ramirez, Lori Gendron Lyberger, and Ashley Vassel; sister in law Laura Herndon; niece Jenna Katherine Herndon. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 at First United Methodist Church of Orlando, 142 E Jackson Street, Orlando, Florida 32801.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s honor to a memorial fund to benefit his children.
