Memorial visitation for Mike Griffith, 58, of Waskom, will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2019, in the chapel of McWhorter Funeral Home. Mike was born on June 28, 1960, in Spokane, Washington, to Harold Dean Griffith and Barbara Zaludek Griffith and passed from this life on April 28, 2019, at his home after a long battle with health issues related to his military service to his country. Mike earned his journeyman machinist certification from Lone Star Steel in 1980 and after his military career worked at Northeast Machine & Tool in Mount Pleasant.

His favorite hobby was baseball and he spent more than 20 years coaching Little League teams all over East Texas. Mike was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1988-1997 and served his country during the Gulf War. He was an avionics technician for HMLA-367 (Scarface), MAG 39 stationed at Camp Pendleton, California and was deployed numerous times aboard the USS Tarawa.

He was upheld by his peers in his unit as a great leader and friend. Mike retired in 1997 and moved back to Texas where he spent the remainder of his life with family and friends. Survivors include his son, Dean Griffith; sister, Cathy Curtis; brother, Rick Griffith and wife, Monica; his first love and life long friend, Vicki Griffith.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kelsey Cemetery, P.O. Box 33, Gilmer, Tx, 75644.
