Obituary for Milica Whited Milica Knezevic Whited returned home to be with Jesus on December 7, 2018. Milica was surrounded by loved ones as she left this world and undoubtedly welcomed by loved ones as she entered Heaven. Milica was born in Hamburg, Germany on November 22, 1950.

She came to the United States as an infant. In elementary school, Milica was introduced to Christianity by a teacher. The teachings she learned would drive her life and never leave her.

Wherever she went, she showed the love of Christ with her actions; she never preached, she lovingly demonstrated. All who met her experienced her fierce love, quiet gentleness, boundless generosity and kindness. An exceptional blend of Earth loving hippie and 1950’s housewife, Milica’s one true goal in life was to become a mother.

And she succeeded in her goal: she became the mother of eight children. She tragically lost two children when she was barely an adult herself. Although she knew she would see them again someday, she forever grieved the loss of Chrissie and Lisa.

She went on to have six more children and ten grandchildren. Everything she did in her life was for her children. Milica was happiest when her hands or feet (or both) were in the dirt and she was surrounded by flowers.

She hated wearing shoes because they separated her from the Earth. She could grow anything: indoor plants, outdoor plants, food, trees, grapevines. She would heal the plants her children nearly killed and grow enough food to feed them all, even after they left home.

Never one to waste, she canned the food she grew; her strawberry jam and apple pie in a jar were favorites and her vegetables stocked freezers year after year. Milica was generous and thoughtful. She gave of herself in ways we are still discovering today.

She was never boastful, she just quietly gave to others as she saw a need. She loved cooking meals and set the table to Emily Post standards for everyday meals. She always cooked enough to feed the masses and seeing her family and friends sit down to a home cooked meal brought her so much joy.

She loved to sew and when she lost most of her vision, she hand quilted blankets for her family, friends and the homeless, sewing a prayer into every stitch. She sent greeting cards for any occasion or no occasion. The postal service and stationary industries will feel her loss.

The world is a slightly darker place without Milica, but her love lives on in those she touched. She leaves behind her pride and joy, her children: Israel and wife Tammy Whited of Lafayette, Carmela and husband Shady Carter of Georgia, David and wife Jennifer Whited of Lafayette, Rebecca Shadwick of Indianapolis, Amanda and husband Jeff Wolf of Cincinnati and Sarah Whited of Indianapolis and grandchildren: Makayla, Darius, Kiana, Eliska, Madison, Elijah, Elliot, Dahlia, Ascher and Sullivan. Also surviving are her mother, Hildegard, siblings Milan, Donna, Rhonda and Ann and countless nieces, nephews, family members and loved ones.

She truly impacted everyone she knew. Milica was reunited with those who passed before her: children Anna Christine and Lisa Michelle; father Zivko Knezevic; soul mate and father of her children Michael (Mick) Whited; mother in law Carmela (Millie) Whited. They are no doubt celebrating with her today.
