Obituary for Mrs. Minnie Gadson Minnie Gadson was born in Savannah, Georgia to the late Mitchell and Minnie Allen Scott of Savannah. She was the last child of eight children, seven who has preceded her death. She spent much of her young adult life living in Bronx New York, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and finally settling down in Savannah, Georgia.
When she met and married her late husband William (Bubba) Gadson and her life was complete—she found a lifelong mate, provider and friend until death separated them in July 2015. She kept Bubba laughing throughout his days and he lovingly referred to her as “The Boss” to friends and family. A full time home maker, she worked part-time jobs which afforded her the time to pursue her passion for gardening, and growing beautiful flowers, which she proudly displayed on the front porch of their homes.
Minnie also made time to be an active member of the 1st Metropolitan Baptist Church Usher Board for many years, until she could no longer attend. She relied and trusted in the Lord and her mind was governed by the holy spirt, and her faith allowed her to live in peace for rest of her life. When Minnie was diagnosed with dementia, she approached her illness with grace and resilience.
When it apparent that longer could remember things, Minnie never complained or asked, “Why me? ” One of life’s great comforts when you chose to trust in God is the ready-made family can find in his people wherever you may go. When she and Bubba were placed in the Riverview Health Care & Rehabilitation Center they continue to thrive and they became part of Riverview family.
Even after Bubba’s death, she would continue her daily strolls through the nursing facility visiting and tidying up in the nursing home, just as though she was at home. She inspired everyone in her life to live each day to the fullest, believing while we can influence others, we can only change ourselves. Of the things that mattered most to Minnie was her family.
Minnie and Bubba didn’t have children. But she was a special aunt to her four her sisters and two brothers children and their children. She affectionately known as “Aunt Boo-boo”.
She and Bubba loved us as though we were their children. Minnie transitioned into eternity May 24, 2017, at the age of 94. Minnie was predeceased by her husband, her parents Minnie Howard and Mitchell Scott and her eight siblings.
She will be affectionately remembered by Caroline Lawton and Bernice Wright, of Charleston, South Carolina; a host of close cousins, nephews and nieces, and grand nieces and nephews. And special friends. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Mrs. Minnie Gadson please visit our Sympathy Store.
