Mitchell “Mitch” Ray Titus of Warsaw, Indiana sadly passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne, Indiana at the age of 47 from injuries sustained in a work place accident. He was born on April 30, 1972 in Wabash County, Indiana to Mary L. (Ward) Thomas and the late Jerry L. Titus. On April 6, 2013 he was married to Jody L. (Shively) Titus, who survives.
Mitch was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana where he was a 1990 graduate of Warsaw Community High School and attended Otterbein United Methodist Church in Atwood. He worked for over 20 years for G&G Hauling & Excavating, Inc. in Warsaw as an equipment operator and very much enjoyed his work family. He loved to fish and hunt, was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association, was a ten-year member of the Kosciusko County 4-H, and member of the Kosciusko County Firemen’s Association.
Mitch loved his community and served the Town of Winona Lake as the Fire Chief for over 10 years. He proudly and humbly received the Fireman of the Year award from the Kosciusko County Firemen’s Association in 2018. He will be remembered as the kind of person, who was always willing to help, but most of all he will be forever loved as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and son.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of six years, Jody L. Titus (Warsaw, Indiana); son: Garrett Titus (Larwill, Indiana); three daughters: ShaShawna Titus (Huntington, Indiana); Mallory Bowers (Warsaw, Indiana); Allie Titus (Warsaw, Indiana); and his granddaughter: Zoie Titus (Larwill, Indiana). Also surviving are his mother and step-father: Mary and Cliff Thomas (Warsaw, Indiana); sister: Amber (Kevin) Gelbaugh (Warsaw, Indiana); step-brother: Craig Thomas (Warsaw, Indiana); and his niece: Emma Gelbaugh (Winona Lake, Indiana). He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Titus, grandparents, Ned and Maryon Titus, Leroy and Mary Ward, and his Uncle David Titus.
Family and friends are invited to share their condolences and memories during visitation that will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Winona Heritage Room, 901 Park Avenue, Winona Lake, Indiana. A final farewell to Mitch will take place with an 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at The Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center, 610 Wooster Road, Winona Lake, Indiana and offficiated by Pastor Denny Wilson and Pastor Jeff Pfeifer. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.
