Mona Mae was born on April 15, 1937, in Cameron Township the daughter of Henry and Alice (Helmke) Martensen. The family farmed in Cameron Township where Mona attended school in a one room school house and graduated from Lake Wilson High School as Valvictorian. After her schooling she worked as a telephone operator in Lake Wilson.

On November 11, 1956 she married her high school sweetheart, Keith Thompson. Keith was in the Air Force so after their marriage the couple lived in the Panama Canal area where Keith was stationed. This is where their first son, Jeff was born.

A day after his birth Mona found out her father died so the family moved back to Cameron Township where they bought her family farm and raised their three children: Jeff, Julie & Joel. After her kids were grown Mona worked as a bank teller at Lake Wilson Bank. The family enjoyed time spent at their lake cabins on Lake Shetek and Lake Benton over the years.

Mona and Keith enjoyed traveling over the years to Hawaii, New York and Branson. In 1997, the couple moved to Alexandria and after a short time here Keith passed away suddenly. After his death Mona kept busy working at school as “the lunch room lady”, helping at Luther Crest Bible Camp – making cookies for the campers and she especially enjoyed time spent baking with her grandchildren.

Mona died on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. She is survived by her son, Jeff & wife, Rox Anne of Alexandria; grandchildren: Stephanie (Jared) Kainz, Jennifer Thompson, Dustin (Leah) Bouw, Danielle (Nate) Fick; six great grandchildren; brother, Marvin Martensen; son-in-law, Gene Bouw. She is preceded in death by her husband, Keith; daughter, Julie Bouw; son, Joel Thompson.

Memorial service will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018, 1:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Kinkead Cemetery.
