BRIMFIELD: Monica L. “Moni” (Baumann) O’Donnell, 68, of Brimfield, MA passed away suddenly, on Wednesday, February 6th at Baystate Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Moni was born in Holyoke, MA to the late Rita Ann Flynn and William Henry Baumann Sr., in 1950. Moni attended local Catholic primary schools and was a 1968 graduate of Holyoke High School.

Moni received her nursing degree and practiced in every capacity for 40 years. She took pride in her nursing education and was taught directly by WWII nurses. Monica loved flowers of all sorts; she had the ultimate green thumb and surrounded herself with plants and flowers throughout all seasons.

She kept the local birds fed with plenty of sunflower seeds, a passion passed on by her late father. Vacations were a big deal when the kids were small, she loved camping up on the Mohawk Trial, visiting Mashpee, MA but most of all she loved Goose Rocks Beach in Maine. Monica’s love for her family was what she lived for.

Monica married her husband Michael J. O’Donnell (Odie) in 1979 and together they raised 3 children, Sarah Hynds of Spencer, MA, Angela Haight of East Brookfield, MA and Michael O’Donnell of Brimfield, MA. Moni was also known as “Giya” to her favorite three people in the world her grandchildren, Grace Haight, Jacob Keyes and Oliver Bird. In addition to leaving behind her family, Moni also leaves behind her biggest baby of all, her 130lb+ dog, Odie.

Monica also leaves behind her siblings Ali Hogan, Billy Baumann, Peter Baumann, Katie Fenton and several nieces and nephews. Monica’s lasting legacy to us all was her total commitment to her family. She was the glue that held us together.

Her obituary was written in full by her loving husband, Odie. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 16th at 3:30 p.m. in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial will be private.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation in Monica’s name can be made to the National Audubon Society. action.
