Montie Paul Rooks 79 of Gila, NM passed away on January 24th, 2018 at Gila Regional Medical Center surrounded by family. A Memorial Service is scheduled at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Cliff, NM on February 17th, at 10:00am with Reverend David Goble officiating. He was born on April 18th, 1938 in Silver City, New Mexico to Paul and Garnett Rooks who resided in Mogollon.

He married Sharon Shock on May 22, 1959 in Deming NM. They were blessed with two children, Marci and Stewart. His greatest love in life was his family, and he had a passion for breeding and raising quarter horses.

Montie retired from Phelps Dodge after 17 years when he then became a dealer for Dish Network providing satellite service throughout the Southwest where he befriended many of his customers and their families. He was a lifelong member of American Quarter Horse Association, Grant County Farm Bureau, and New Mexico Cattle Growers Association and Grant County Cattle Growers Association. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Rooks, daughter Marci (Jeff) Watson, son Stewart (Connie) Rooks, and grandchildren Dylan (Jessica) Watson, Oren Watson, Calvin (Amy) Rooks, and Kelsey (Zach) Lavender and great grandchildren Alyssa Upton-Watson, Callie Rooks, Montgomery and Gentry Watson, and George Wyatt Lavender as well as devoted nephew Keven McCauley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Garnett Rooks. In lieu of flowers, and donations be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the Cliff Gila EMTs and the staff at GRMC for the excellent care provided.
