Obituary for Mr Thomas Sherman Rogers Jr. Thomas Sherman Rogers, Jr. was born September 9, 1930 in Mountain View, OK to Thomas S. Rogers, Sr. and Ruth Wantland Rogers. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank Rogers; Sisters: Catherine Rogers Freelin and Bette Rogers Muse Cooke. Tom is survived by his wife Betty, three children, Connie Rogers McClure (Bill) of Carrollton, TX; Thomas Wayne Rogers of Carrollton, TX, and Thomas Sherman Rogers, III (Jason) of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Savannah, Jonothan, and William McClure; Samantha and Bo Rogers.
He is also survived by brother-in-law, Keith Freelin; mother-in-law, Juanita Banning; brothers-in-law Tom Banning (Wanda), John Banning (Denise) and numerous nieces and nephews. While attending Mountain View High School he participated in all sports and played on the practice squad under Coach Bud Wilkinson at OU. His Air Force Reserve Unit was activated during the Korean War when he was two weeks from taking his final exams for the semester.
He served six months, then joined the Army serving two years before returning to University of Oklahoma and completed his degree in Business Administration in 1955. He joined the Ruf-Nex serving as Treasurer upon his return to OU from the Army and enjoyed being involved with sports from the sidelines until graduation. He started in the insurance business in Altus, OK later moving to Oklahoma City and continuing his career there until retiring in 2000.
he enjoyed the friends made as a member of the Oklahoma Life Underwriter’s Association and the clients over the years, especially, while enjoying a cup of coffee while sharing ideas on marketing, sports and current affairs. He attended Destiny Christian Center in Del City. One of his favorite memories was helping build the Christian Church in Mountain View, OK.
We want to thank the staff, residents and families at the Norman VA Center, who became family. Tom enjoyed the entertainment provided by the many volunteers, the poker and domino tournaments and bingo. He was the domino champion in June and July at the Center and was always signing up as soon as the sheets were available to participate in the events.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this journey. A memorial service will be Saturday, November 3, at 1:00 pm at Ford Funeral Service in Candlewood Chapel. 305 S. Sooner Rd, Midwest City, OK.
