Obituary for Mrs Carole Jean Gergely Carole Jean (Goodlet) Gergely met her Savior face to face on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the age of 74 after a very brief illness. She was born to Carl & Dora (Rush) Goodlet on December 24, 1943 in Akron, Ohio and was raised in the North Hill area. She accepted Jesus as her Savior as a young girl at Riverside Church of Christ and graduated from North High School in 1961.
She was employed as a secretary by the Internal Revenue Service where she met Donald Gergely. They fell in love and married on March 5, 1966. Carole was a faithful and loving wife to Don, her best friend, for 52 years.
Together they made their home in Tallmadge where they raised three sons — Don Jr., John, and Russ. After staying home to raise her young boys she began her career as Secretary of Northwest Avenue Church of Christ where they were also members. She retired after 30 years of faithful service to the church.
In addition to her office work she volunteered as a youth sponsor, choir member, organist, and pianist on the worship team. She led the greeters ministry, was chairwoman of the 50th Anniversary planning team, and recently enjoyed being a part of the widows’ ministry. Carole had an amazing gift of encouragement and was devoted to prayer, keeping a long list of those in need.
She enjoyed reading, being a part of her book club, journaling, and sending cards and letters. She took pleasure in planting flowers around the house and making her home beautiful. She also enjoyed hanging out with the McDonald’s gang.
Above all she had great pride in her boys and took joy in watching her grandchildren grow. She was an avid cheerleader of all their sporting events, musical activities, and academic successes. She simply adored everything they did and enjoyed spoiling them.
In addition to her husband, Carole is survived by a family that loved her very much: three sons and daughter-in-laws, Don (Angie), John (Lisa) and Russ (Amy); ten grandchildren, Faith (Kyle) Barnett, Alex (Bebe) Gergely, Vilma Gergely, Felicity LeFevre, Seth and Aaron Gergely, William and Evan Gergely; three brothers, Dick (Willa) Goodlet, Roy (Sheri) Goodlet, and Tom (Carol) Goodlet; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved, lifelong friends. Friends may call at Northwest Avenue Church of Christ, 737 Northwest Ave. , Tallmadge from 5:00 – 8:00 pm THURSDAY, September 27th and one hour prior to the funeral.
