Obituary for Myrtle L. Downs Myrtle L. Downs, age 95, of Rensselaer passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018, at the Rensselaer Care Center. Myrtle was born in Sparta, Tennessee on March 27, 1923, the daughter of the late Vasco and Mattie Mae (Robinson) Demps. She attended Jasper County Public Schools.

Her marriage was in Rensselaer, IN on June 22, 1940, to Robert Earl Downs, who passed away on June 24, 2002. Myrtle retired from the Jasper County Hospital where she worked as an aid for 25 years, she was loved by her patients and co-workers dearly. Myrtle was a member of the First Assembly of God in Rensselaer and attended the Victorious Life Assembly of God in Remington She will be dearly missed by her family.

Surviving are four children Mabel (James) Champley of Rossville, IN, Karen (Thomas) Kennedy of Rensselaer, IN, Judy (Melvin) Lane of Rensselaer, IN, Patricia (Marvin) Wilder of Lafayette, IN. 14 Grandchildren, 31 Great- Grandchildren and 22 Great- Great Grandchildren; Brother Richard (Margaret) Demps of Knoxville, TN, Sister Reba (Lee) Crass of Munster, IN. In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband Robert, a son Bobby Downs Jr., a daughter Lois Boring, two sisters and three brothers and 1 Step Great-Grandson.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, June 4, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 5, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer with Pastor Melvin Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery, Rensselaer, IN.
