We will sorely miss our beloved. Life Story of Nam Hoang Nguyen Nam Hoang Nguyen was born in Vinh Long, Vietnam on July 17, 1978 to parents Viet and Kimcuong Nguyen. At the age of 9 months on a moon lit night, our family left Vietnam due to communist oppression for the land of the free.

The journey was harsh with many days and night of hunger and thirst under the sweltering sun and rough seas (8 days and 9 nights). We were robbed by Thai pirates of valuables but fortunate enough for us to have kept our lives. We were unfortunate to land in Malaysia (Dungun).

The Malaysian navy took our working boat and put us on a broken boat with many Chinese refugees. They towed us out to sea (one day and one night) to perish. Our father, who is a naval officer of South Vietnam, was able to fix the boat.

We landed safely at Air Raya, Indonesia and transferred to refugee camp Galang Island in 1979. We lived at the camp for 11 months. From there, we were aided by the United Nations for emigration to U.S.A.

We landed in St. Petersburg, FL in 1980 with the aid of our great aunt. Nam went to Lynch Elementary School. He loved to play in the back yard with our chickens and pet alligators.

Biking was one of his favorite pastimes. He attended Meadowlawn Middle School. He excelled and routinely had straight A’s.

He attended Northeast High School. He loved to lift weights and play volleyball. He graduated Cum Laude from Northeast High School.

He enrolled in Florida A & M University. He received his Doctorate of Pharmacy after many nights of sleeplessness and cramming for tests. He enjoyed playing billiard, jet skiing, and chilling with his friends.

His beloved Chihuahua, Cookie, was always loyal to keep him company. He completed his pharmacy residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital, South Miami Hospital, and Veterans VA. Nam Hoang Nguyen, PharmD worked at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Publix, and most recently at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

His most loved activities were fishing, scalloping, listening and playing music, cooking, camping, and most of all going out to eat. He was a gifted at playing the piano, guitar, and drums. With the passing of Cookie, Dexter, a poodle, became his always loyal companion to this day.

While at St. Anthony’s Hospital, he worked hard at the pharmacy with the help of great staff and management team. He is loved, admired, and respected by his staff, peers, and family. Nam Hoang Nguyen, PharmD passed peacefully on March 19, 2019.
