Nancy Josina Hetterscheidt McSweeney Woerner passed away peacefully on Friday, November 2nd. Born November 29th, 1933 on Seymour Avenue, Nancy was a life-long Columbus resident. The daughter of the late William and Helena Hetterscheidt, Nancy was a graduate of Rosary High School and attended the Ohio State University.

Nancy retired after serving in several administrative positions with the Columbus Division of Police. She was a volunteer with the Upper Arlington Public Library at the time of her passing — she was a prodigious reader, and instilled the love of books into her kids. Nancy was truly a “people person” and loved being surrounded by family and friends.

She was also partial to knitting, playing bridge and euchre, and puzzles and Netflix on her IPad. Nancy is preceded in death by her sisters Jeanne Liston and Bertille Gleich, brother James Hetterscheidt, stepson Michael Woerner, and husband of 46 years Patrick McSweeney. Nancy is survived by her husband of 14 years Larry Woerner, sister Helen James, and children Michaela (Craig) Heckman, Tracy (Ed) Morgan, Sean (Joan) McSweeney, Marty (Jean) McSweeney, P.J. McSweeney, and Kate (Jason) Pishotti.

Nancy is also survived by her stepchildren Larry (Rosie) Woerner, Mary Beth (Luke) McCormick, and Susan (David) Steigerwald. Nancy is also survived by her grandchildren, who she adored: Grant, Tyler and Madison Heckman; Sarah Jados, Molly Knutson and Kevin Morgan; Michaela, Conor and Aidan McSweeney; Seamus and Nuala McSweeney; and Dominick, Jackson and Lucy Pishotti. In addition she had three great-grandchildren who she equally adored; Zoe and Simon Heckman, and Darcy Knutson.

Thank you to Ohio Health Hospice, the Kobacker House, and especially Arlington Court Nursing Center who treated her with exceptional kindness, care and dignity in her final months. She will be missed enormously – she was a joy. Friends may call on Thursday, November 8th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Egan Ryan Funeral Home, 4661 Kenny Road, Columbus 43220.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 9th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Church, 1088 Thomas Lane, Columbus 43220. Burial St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the J.O.I.N.

organization, 578 E. Main Street, Columbus 43215.
