Nancy J. Romano, December 22, 2018 Nancy J. Romano, formerly of Westfield, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Her best friend and devoted husband of 47 years, Nicholas, tended to her caringly during her battle with Parkinson’s Disease and comforted her in her final hours. Nancy was born in Elizabeth, NJ on March 26, 1947 to Paul and Mary Kristof.

Along with her sister Geraldine, Nancy grew up in Elizabeth and Linden with many cousins and extended family close by. After graduating from Trenton State University she went on to earn two masters in education and spent her professional life as an educator and administrator in various school districts in New Jersey, the last of which was Highland Park. Nancy volunteered her time at St. Helens Parish in Westfield as a CCD teacher for many years.

Nancy met the love her life Nicholas at a party during college. They married in July of 1971 and moved to Westfield in 1974 where they raised their two children Timothy and Christine. Nancy was an incredible musician and enjoyed playing the piano and singing as Nicholas played the guitar.

Nancy also loved cooking and kept her family spoiled for years with the best food and sweets anyone could ask for. Her annual tradition of baking Christmas cookies with her friend Margaret was chronicled in the Star Ledger. Nancy cherished the time she spent at the beach with family in Ortley Beach, NJ.

Despite her aversion to cold water, she never hesitated to join Nicholas, her children and four grandchildren in the ocean. Nancy is survived by her adoring husband Nicholas; son Timothy and his wife Tina; daughter Christine Meierdierck and her husband Paul; sister Geraldine Costello; and four grandchildren Lucas, Gavin, Natalie and James. Friends and family are welcome for visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 on Wednesday, December 26th at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave.

, Westfield, NJ. The funeral mass is on Thursday, December 27th at 10:00 AM at Saint Helens Roman Catholic Church, 1600 Rahway Ave. , Westfield, NJ.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
