Nancy Jane Maystead age 84 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Thursday evening January 10, 2019 at the Sturgis Hospital. She was born July 24, 1934 in Sturgis Township, Michigan daughter of the late LeRoy and Mildred I. (Clark) Phillips. Nancy was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1952.

She enjoyed knitting and over the years had knitted many hats and mittens for area mitten trees. Nancy loved time spent with her family. She is survived by her husband of 62 years: John; one daughter: Peri Maystead of Sturgis; three sons: Douglas (Lisa Thornton) Maystead of Constantine, Michael (Jennifer Allen) Maystead of Palo Alto, California and Patrick Maystead of Sturgis; two grandchildren: Christopher Maystead and Laura Maystead both of Palo Alto, California.

In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services. The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 is entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Maystead’s memory consider the St. Joseph County Animal Control, 652 E. Main St., Centreville, MI 49032.
