Obituary for Naomi Amelia Yant Naomi Amelia Yant 79, of Delaware, died peacefully at home with her family Saturday, August 25, 2018. She was born March 29, 1939 in Duluth, MN to V. Rae (Kimball) and Dr. Lewis E Harris. She graduated from Delaware Willis High School in 1957, and from The Ohio State University in 1961, earning her Bachelor of Science in Education.
Naomi began her career as an elementary school teacher for Gahanna and Delaware City Schools. She later earned her masters degree from the University of Dayton and became a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. She flourished in her role as a counselor for 21 years, working the last 15 years in the office of Dr. Desai, Marion, where she touched the lives of many clients, co-workers, and friends.
Naomi brightened the lives of those around her with her silliness, laughter, and simple joy of life. She had a profound love of nature and the outdoors. She very much enjoyed gardening, hiking, swimming, bird watching, and kayaking throughout her life.
She was a talented artist and cook. Naomi had a passion for helping others, serving the community through Preservation Parks, United Way, League of Women Voters, the Democratic Party, Help Anonymous, and the public library. Naomi shared a very special bond with her husband and best friend of 57 years and 5 days, William E. Yant.
Family was the most important focus of Naomi’s life as she took great pride in being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, William E. Yant, children, Scott (Amy) Yant of Delaware, Andrew Yant of Delaware and Suzanne Hughes of Naperville, IL. , grandchildren, Britten (Jamie) Yant, Arianna Yant, Leah Burtt, Alexander Burtt.
Naomi’s last wishes were that we all be kind and good to one another. Her positive outlook and compassion toward others will live on through her family. Calling hours will be a Robinson’s Funeral Home on Saturday September 8, 2018 at 1pm with a Memorial Service at 2 pm.
