Obituary for Nelson James “Butch” Matthews Franklin, NJ: Nelson J. “Butch” Matthews, 76 years old, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Born to the late Frank and Mary Matthews in Newburgh, NY, he had lived in Lyndhurst, NJ before moving to Franklin, NJ 40 years ago. Butch worked as welder for Fredon Welding and as a custodian for Sparta Schools and Hardyston Twp.

Schools before retiring in 2012. Butch took great joy in camping, fishing and woodworking. Butch is predeceased by a sister, Gladys Matthews and is the beloved husband for 53 years of Patricia Matthews(nee Visakay).

Devoted father of Deborah Wood and her husband, Dave of Laurel Hill, NC. Loving grandfather of Courtney and her husband, William Scarangello, Samantha, Danny, Tyler, Casey and Ricki. Great grandfather of Sierra, Kayden, Mackenzie, Enzo and Aubree.

Dear brother of Artie Matthews and his wife, Bea of St. Mary’s, GA and Fran Matthews of Gardner, NY. Nephew of Rose Giannani of Madison, NY. Cherished by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin, NJ on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 4-8 PM. Celebration of Life to begin at 8:00 PM. Cremation is private.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers to a favorite charity would be appreciated.
