Obituary for Nelson Melendez McAllen, Texas Mr. Nelson Melendez entered eternal rest on Monday, October 8, 2018 at the age of 67. Nelson was born on December 26, 1950 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico to Domingo and Nicolasa Melendez. Nelson was a resident of McAllen for more than 20 years.

Nelson proudly served his country with the United States Air Force enlisting in 1969 and was honorably discharged in 1995. Nelson was an air traffic controller for the McAllen Airport for 21 years. Nelson was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen and a fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus council #12040 in McAllen.

Nelson was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Ivania Melendez of McAllen; His daughter-Maria Christina (Lance) Zenker; also extended family and friends. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Rivera Funeral Home,1901 Pecan Blvd.

in McAllen from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the recital of the Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 8:30 AM. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. At the request of the family in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Nelson Melendez can be made to the McAllen Pregnancy Center at mpcpregnancy.net Funeral arrangement’s are being handled by Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen.
