OBITUARY Nettie Mae Bates June 8, 1936 – January 26, 2019 Play Tribute Movie Nettie Mae Bates, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Woodland Village in Cullman, AL. She was born in Fort Benning Georgia on June 8, 1936, the 3rd child of 7 (1st daughter) her parents: Oliver and Merle Tubbs. She was a very strong woman; she was able to manage a career (before it was popular), raise a family, and provide unconditional love to all of us all of the time.

Nettie made you feel special, she was always happy to see you and would always do anything for you to help or to make you feel better or just because you wanted it; yes her children admit they were spoiled. She had a zest for life; she was full of life and happy, she lived as an example of the words “if you have the choice to sit it out or dance, Dance”. Because for the last few months, she was unable to do what she loved, it made it very difficult on her family and everyone that knew and loved her.

Her son-in-law, Rodney mentioned that he loved the fact that Mom would always take SO LONG TO EAT at the table, and now reflecting on it, she just loved being with all of us so much and loved the conversation and that was truly why it was taking so long; how fortunate we are that she did the conversations and laughter we shared are unforgettable. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Bates; father, Oliver Tubbs; mother, Merle Tubbs; brothers: Dwight Tubbs and Cedrick Tubbs and sister, Janie Tubbs. She is survived by daughter, Tammy Gipson (Rodney); son, Randy Bates (Debbie); grandchildren: Joshua Bates (Samantha), Meagan Keese (Erik), Allie Gipson, Lukas Gipson; great grandchildren: Mason Bates, Colt Rylie Keese, Oakleigh Bates, and Finleigh Bates; and sisters: Ruby Smith, Nancy Shortnancy, and Peggy Daniels.

Her family will receive friends on Monday, January 28, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life for Nettie Mae Bates will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Moss Service Funeral Home. Burial will be at Cullman City Cemetery.
