Nicholas (Nick) Dickey, 101, of Butler, passed away, Friday May 10, 2019 at The Sergeant Joseph George Kusick VA Community Living Center. He has joined his beloved wife, Ann, the love of his life. They will now be together for eternity.

Nick was born September 11th, 1917, in Butler’s ‘Red Row’ And was the son of the late Josef and Paza Dickey. During his youth, with a limited amount of formal education, he left school to help support the family. He worked for Pittsburgh Auto (Butler), served his country and was honorably discharged from the Army/Air Corp, he worked at Deich (Pittsburgh), Pannella (New Castle) and retired from Pullman Standard (Butler) in 1985.

He was not a big game hunter who roamed the plains of Africa nor was he a famous fighter pilot who shot down enemy planes, but he was a man who could have easily collected many an accolade for his genuine random acts of kindness. He could not pass a person by who needed a hand. Someone who needed something fixed, fabricated, or needed a ride to an appointment, he was the guy they called.

He was a quiet kind of guy who would rarely boast or brag about his accomplishments, he just wasn’t that type. He was a ‘shirt off his back’ kind of guy. He gave of himself.

He gave of himself to his wife, he gave of himself to his children, he gave of himself to his grandchildren and he gave of himself to his great grandchildren. He gave of himself to God and he did this through the St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church on Hansen Avenue. His loved ones who he will join in Paradise are his mother and father, Paza and Josef Dickey.

His three brothers and two sisters and their spouses, Mary McKruit (Andy), John Dickey (Catherine), Pauline Ballentine (Michael), Michael Dickey (Nellie), Joseph Dickey (Dorothy) and his beloved Ann Dickey. Those of us he loved and leaves behind includes his two sons and their spouses and one daughter, Nicholas Dickey (Gaye), Peter Dickey (Diana), Joyce Ann Buser and seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. May he follow the angels to Paradise.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. Parastas Services will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m., at the Funeral Home.

The Rev. Douglas Lorance, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park.
