OBITUARY Nicholas Smith April 4, 1927 – January 2, 2019 NICHOLAS GROESBECK SMITH, JR. APRIL 4, 1927 – JANUARY 2, 2019 GOODBYE! I’m gone, as are many of my friends and family members.

Hopefully, I’m now with them and hopefully I’ll be with some of you at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S Highland Drive on Saturday, January 5th at 11:00 a.m. I’ll be silent this time but curious about your memories of me. SON of Nicholas Groesbeck Smith and Florence Gay Smith. Born in Salt Lake City on April 4, 1927.

SURVIVORS: MARION BURROWS SMITH, married November 22, 1950. Children: Kathleen Sevastopoulos, Sharon Christenson (A.J. Martine), Lindy Burton (Mark), Robin Burrows, Charlotte Smith, Wendy (Jim Michie), Niki Hagen (Stephen). Grandchildren: Chandra O’Malley (Robert), Marissa Lang (David), Kamilee Christenson (Tony) Nicholas Christenson (Narnia), Sierra Pardey (Robin), Adryon Burton-Denmark (Jake), Taylor Burton, Chase Burton, Yale Davison (Kristina) Greer Davison (Amanda), Daphne Michie, Lochlin Michie, Daisy Hagen, Juel Hagen, and fifteen great grandchildren.

EDUCATION: East High School, 1944, ROTC Cadet Major. University of Utah, Bachelor of Science, 1951. New York University, Master of Business Administration, 1952.

SERVICE: Seaman First Class U.S. Navy, 1945. Second Lieutenant U.S. Air Force Reserve, 1951. LDS Mission to South Africa, 1950.

LDS Temple Square Guide, 11 years. Member Salt Lake Stake High Council. Member Salt Lake City Board of Education.

Board Member Intermountain ual Abuse Treatment Center. President Salt Lake Council of Foreign Relations. Executive Committee Utah Chapter for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

Honorary Member Nevada School Boards Association. UCPCA Child Advocate of the Year Award 1994. CAREER: New York City: Mortgage Loan Accountant, Equitable Life Insurance Co, 1951.

Portland: Account Executive Blythe &Co. , 1953-54. Salt Lake City: Federal Reserve Bank, 1952-53.

Vice President, Edward L. Burton & Co., 1954-70. President, Burrows Smith & Co., 1970-81. Vice President, Bache Halsey Stuart Shields, 1981.

Senior Vice President Prudential Securities, 1981-92. At various times, financial advisor to the states of Utah, Nevada, and many of their political subdivisions. I LOVED: Marion, my daughters and sons-in-law, grandchildren and their spouses, special friends, music, travel (90 countries), swimming, Hawaii, foreign films, photography, and PBS.

Among other causes, I was a supporter of Compassion and Choices, and Death With Dignity. MOST IMPORTANTLY: I have have loved, and been loved. Following the service, interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
