Nolan Bruce Krouse KALIDA – Nolan Krouse, 94, of Kalida died on Saturday December 8th 2018 at 2:19 pm at the Meadows of Kalida surrounded by his family. Nolan was born September 19, 1924 to Perry and Beatrice (Stauffer) Krouse of Kalida. On July 24, 1948 he married his high school sweetheart Irma Holtkamp who passed away in 2012.
He is survived by 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; with one on the way. His children include Gary (Connie) Krouse of Kalida, Kathy (Tim) Bailey of Ft. Wayne Indiana, Mary Beth Krouse (Becky) of Columbus, Joni (Randy) Nienberg, Becky (Roger) Brinkman, Steve (Sheryl) Krouse of Kalida.
Nolan’s grandchildren are Jeff (Trista) Krouse, Mike (Karen) Krouse, Kevin (Julie) Bailey, David (Beth) Nienberg, Paul (Deana) Nienberg, Matthew (Samantha) Nienberg, Kelly (Ryan) Beckman, Carrie (Champy) Halim, Keith (Ally) Franks, Ryan (Kristy) Krouse, Jessica (Kyle) Recker, Evan Krouse, Andrew Krouse, Connor Krouse and Katherine Krouse. Nolan is also survived by a brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred Shirey of Continental, Joe Pequignot of Fort Jennings, Rita and Denny Maag of Kalida, Betty Holtkamp and Ginny Holtkamp. He is preceded in death by a grandson Shawn Bailey, sisters Sylvia Shirey and Susan Eickholt; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smith and Joan Pequignot; and brothers-in-law, Jack Eickholt, Don Holtkamp, Gene Holtkamp, and Tom Smith Nolan graduated from Kalida High School and Tiffin University.
He was a retired accountant from Ford Motor Company. Nolan proudly served in the U. S. Navy during both WW II and Korea. At age 90 he enjoyed the Flag City Honor Flight trip to Washington DC as a tribute to his service.
He was a devout member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Kalida Fish and Game Club. Nolan had wide variety of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed music, movies, carpentry, photography, sports, hunting but his favorite pastime was fly fishing.
He also loved to travel and dance with his wife, attend his grandchildren’s sporting events, and spend time with his hunting friends in Michigan and West Virginia. His cheerful disposition, warm demeanor, sense of humor and broad spectrum of interests created friends and good times wherever he went. He was known by most as “Granddad Nolan”.
He truly enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends to share a drink and a laugh. A sincere Thank You to the staff of the Meadows in Kalida, family, friends and neighbors who cared for Nolan in his later years. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr.
Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legions and AMVETS. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township where there will be a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. and K of C Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Pheasants Forever or Challenged Champions.
