Obituary for Norma Kraus (Tewes) Norma Emily (Tewes) Kraus quietly passed away at Lake Forest Place on Monday, June 25, 2018, at age 98. Born in Milwaukee, WI. , on August 4, 1919, and reared in Waukegan, Norma graduated from Beloit College with a B. S. in Chemistry.
She worked in the chem lab at Seagram’s Distilling Co. in Lawrenceburg, IN. , before meeting and marrying her husband of 61 years, Dr. Frank Kraus. The couple moved to Bardstown, Ky.
, in 1943, where Dr. Kraus managed the Barton Distilling Co. plant. The Krauses moved to Lake Forest in 1964, while Frank worked as vice-president of Jim Beam Distilling Co. Norma was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, working hard on many committees and rummage sales. She and her husband enjoyed playing bridge with friends, traveling to Europe, and wintering in Florida.
Her passions included tending her spectacular garden, voraciously reading, attending Ravinia summer concerts, and most of all, cooking delicious meals, including her Austrian specialties. Norma will be remembered as a loyal and gracious friend, a great listener, a supportive wife, a firm, loving and attentive mother, and an intelligent, creative woman with boundless common sense and intuition. Norma was predeceased by her husband, her parents, Alma (Westermark) and Edward E. Tewes, her sister, Mary Jane Braun, and her brother, Ed Tewes.
She is survived by two children, Marie Lerner-ton (Paul ton) of Olathe, KS. , Rick (Marcia) Kraus, of Concord, N. C., five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
