Mrs. Norma J. Callaway, 87, of Jacksonville, IL formerly of Kincaid, IL went to be with the Lord at 5:39 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2017 at Heritage Health Care Center, Jacksonville, IL. Norma was born October 10, 1930, in Taylorville, IL, the youngest of five living siblings of Michael and Anna Waitkus Chernauski. Her father died in the coal mine when she was a young girl, about nine.

Her eldest brother, William, stayed in the home to help their mother, until his little sisters were raised. Norma graduated from Taylorville High School in 1948 with high honors. Norma married Willard M. Callaway on June 27, 1953 in Taylorville.

He preceded her in death March 9, 2017. As a married woman, Norma was not a club joiner, but was known for her fine cooking, sewing, church participation and generally a great organizer. She shared these skills as an annual room mother, which she stretched money into special treats that included her marshmallow popcorn balls and character cut up cakes.

Norma took her home sewing skills to Cardinal Products, in Kincaid, IL, where she was a working manager. She had a great fondness for all there. At her church, Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid, IL, she was part of a group of pie makers and was one of the leaders who organized many church dinners.

Surviving are her daughter, Joann (Joe) McManus of Jacksonville, IL; grandchildren, Jenna (Buford) Stowers of Jacksonville, IL and James (Lauren) McManus of Chatham, IL; 3 great- grandchildren, Cooper Stowers, Brody Stowers and Rose McManus. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Michael Chernauski and Wm. “Bill” Chernauski; sisters, Ella Brown, Mary Ramsey and Anna Law.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL. Pastor Steve Smith will be officiant and burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery at Taylorville, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday in Masterson Funeral Home.
