Norma’s Obituary Norma J. Hawickhorst, nee Bushue, 82, of Columbia, IL, born September 8, 1936 in Effingham, IL, died Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the Degreef Hospice House in St. Louis, MO. Mrs. Hawickhorst was retired from St. Louis Altenheim. She was also employed by Koch Hospital in St. Louis until its closing.

She was a graduate of St. John’s Nursing School in Springfield, IL. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia, IL and was a “Master Gardener”. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Hawickhorst; her parents, Raymond and Marie, nee Rieman, Bushue; a sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Hayden; and a son-in-law, Joe Schmader.

Surviving are her children, Gregg (Julie) Hawickhorst of Columbia, IL, Mark(Craiza) Hawickhorst of Columbia, MO, Brad (Robin) Hawickhorst of Portsmouth, VA, Lynn Schmader of Wildwood, MO, Kurt (LeAnn) Hawickhorst of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kay Hawickhorst of Millersville, MD; two sisters, Betty (Larry) Brown of Effingham, IL and Glenda Smith of Arvada, CO; a brother-in-law, Mark Hayden of Stafford, VA; 13 grandchildren Kevin, Carrie, Kate Lynn, David, Amber, Nicole (Justin), Leigh, Bryan, Anna, Laura, Scott, Matt, and Josh; and three great grandchildren, Winter, Oliver, and Cecilia. Condolences may be expressed online at braunfh.com. Memorial contributions may be made to VA St. Louis Fisher House, P.O. Box 998, Fenton, MO 63026 A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, IL.

A Memorial Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. with Msgr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
