Norma’s Obituary Norma Jean Dinkelman passed away on January 15, 2019 in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was born in Chanute, Kansas on May 8th, 1928 to Edith Permelia Bates and Charles Edgar Steinman. In 1946 at the age of 18, Jean moved to Fort Collins to work for Western Union as a teletype operator.

In 1947 she married Alexander “Jim” Waag and in 1968 she married Larry Dinkelman. Jean is survived by her husband Larry Dinkelman, her three children: Cynthia Roush (Bill), Stephanie Blackmon Waag (Michael) and Tony Waag (Mark Kellogg), her three step children: Anke Crabdree (Tim), Mark Dinkelman (Natalie Brown) and Erik Dinkelman (Robin), 11 grand children, 20 great grand children, 1 great great grand child and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean loved to cook and her specialty was baking.

Her trademark sour cream apple pie is a family favorite. She was an avid swimmer, card player and quilted beautiful blankets and throws. She loved to play the slots at Blackhawk and often won.

She worked at Woodward Governor and Hewlett Packard for several years and then did the book keeping for the family business which was located in Timnath, Colorado. She was a member of the Aspen Club and she also did volunteer work for various organizations such as the Poudre Valley Hospital Blood Bank and Auxiliary and the Fort Collins Visitors Center. A loving mother and wife with an ever positive attitude and a wicked sense of humor, Norma Jean Dinkelman will be deeply missed by a giant extended community of family and friends which she called the United Nations.
