Born in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late James Carson Stroupe and Sarah Louise Bonner Stroupe. Norma was married to the late Jim Pate from 1972 until his death in 2016.

Jim and Norma had the kind of love that can only be dreamed of. They both loved the Lord and they lived their lives displaying the kind of love that only dedicated Christians can show. She retired from Hamrick’s and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Even though Norma had no biological children, she was a wonderful stepmother to Jim’s three children: twins Jeanne Gordon (James) of Hendersonville, NC and Bill Pate (Donna) of Mobile, AL and daughter Jackie Shanklin (Ken) of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by five step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; a brother, James C. Stroupe of Charlotte, NC and a sister, Phoebe Stroupe Lee of Conway, SC. Norma loved cooking and knew which dish was each grandchild’s favorite.

The grandchildren knew that when they visited they would be getting that one favorite food cooked especially for them. This is just one of the many things that made her such a special person. Her love and sweet spirit will be missed by everyone she touched.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Terry Duvall officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
