OBITUARY Norman Boone Hatch July 18, 1931 – January 1, 2019 Norman Boone Hatch (Buck), 87, of Oak Park peacefully passed away of natural causes on January 1, 2019. He is survived by his three sons Richard (Rick), Carlton (Scott), and Bennett (Clay) and his spouse Loren. He was born on July 18, 1931.

He attended Portales High School in Portales, New Mexico and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a Masters Degree. He pursued his passions of music and teaching throughout his long life. He was a Professor of Music at Pepperdine University between 1962 and 1999 where one of his proud achievements was to conduct and take the Pepperdine Choralaires on multiple international USO tours and has remained in regular contact with many of those members over all these years.

He also conducted private and group vocal coaching for over 40 years at Pepperdine and in his home Studio in Oak Park. One of his goals was to go beyond basic vocal techniques and the exposure of students to great works of music. It was important to him to impart musicality and the understanding of the musical line and phrasing.

It brought him tremendous satisfaction when his students appeared to grasp those subtleties and demonstrate them. Funeral services will be performed by Pastor Craig Beeker at New Hope Lutheran Church at 29295 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills, California, 91301 on Saturday January 12th at 2pm followed by a reception. Memorial donations can be made in Buck’s name to your favorite charity.
