OBITUARY Norman H Smith December 23, 1930 – September 17, 2018 Norman Howard Smith, 87, of Cary, died Monday, September 17, 2018 at WakeMed Raleigh Hospital from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Norman was born December 23, 1930 in Newton, MS to the late Jesse Smith and Ida Ophelia May Smith. He was veteran of the US Army and a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Norm was employed in civil service with the federal government retiring with over 30 years of service in January 1986. In his retirement years, he enjoyed golf, having played in all 50 states; traveling with his wife, Judy, throughout the US and Canada in their RV where he aquired an interest in bird watching. His North American life list included over 700 species and led to birding trips to Tanzania, South Africa, Australia and Belize.

He was a member of Genesis United Methodist Church in Cary. He was preceded in death by eleven older siblings. Norman is survived by his wife of 28 years, Judith T. Smith; daughter, Mary Elizabeth King (Stephen); son, William Norman Smith (Anne); brother-in-law, David Trask; five grandchildren and four great granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held (Date to be determined) at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St, Apex, NC 27502. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Foundation www.
