Ollin D. Adkins (“Reds”), age 82, of Conowingo, MD passed away peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2018 at his home. Born June 23, 1935 in Branchland, WV, Reds was the son of the late Elbert and Olga (Sheppard) Adkins. Growing up in West Virginia, Reds was one of fourteen children.

He worked for General Motors for 47 years where he retired in 2002. He was known for his big smile and his great sense of humor. If he was able to get one person to smile and laugh, it was a good day.

Reds loved to hunt and would spend many hours hunting for deer, rabbits, ‘coons, and squirrels. He also spent time training Beagles and Coon Hounds to hunt. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing to old country music and bluegrass music.

Reds most cherished time was that spent with his family and his numerous friends. He will be greatly missed by those that knew him. Reds is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Bonnie Adkins; two daughters: Jackie Adkins of Conowingo, MD and Olga Adkins of Peach Bottom, PA; son, Timmy Adkins of Springfield, VA; 10 grandchildren: Alex, Hannah, Colby, Emmalee, Chelsea, Dylan, Nate, Dustin, Cody, Madison; 6 great grandchildren: Tanner, Paislee, Layla, Jaxson, Brantley, Lincoln; special nephew, Eugene Adkins and his wife, Emma of Kingsville, MD; niece, Windell Deloach of Thurmont, MD and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Reds is also survived by three sisters: Betty Adkins of Wayne, WV, Louise Adkins and Vera Fox, both of South Point, OH. Including his parents, Reds was preceded in death by five sisters: Marie Gillispie, Opal Strogilos, Blanche Morris, Edith Bennett, and Leona Cremans; and five brothers: Robert, Orville, Ersie, Delmar, and Cornis Adkins. A celebration of Reds life will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may visit beginning at 6:00 p.m. Another visitation will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 6-9:00 p.m. at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home, 10030 WV-152, Wayne, WV 25570 and a service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Adkins Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Amedysis Hospice” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
