Oris Cook of Hermiston was born December 24, 1923 in Wise, Virginia the son of Melvin and Margie (Whitaker) Cook. He passed away in Salem, Oregon on Wednesday September 19, 2018 at the age of 94. Oris traveled extensively as a child living in Virginia and Kentucky.

As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Velma Shoupe on June 10, 1946 in Cumberland, Kentucky. In 1948, the couple moved to Hermiston, Oregon where they raised their family.

He worked as a rigger for the Army Corps of Engineers on McNary Dam for over thirty years, retiring in 1980. Oris enjoyed gardening, working on his small farm and on home improvements projects. He was preceded in death by his wife Velma in 1997; both of his parents; and a granddaughter, Mona McCabe.

He is survived by four daughters, Essa Evalyn LaChance of Palmer, AK, Marilyn Cook and Linda Cook both of Otis, OR and Elizabeth Cook of Dallas, OR; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday September 22, 2018 at Hermiston Cemetery. Family suggest memorial donations to Disabled American Veterans.
