Oscar Monroe Brooks August 28, 1930 – May 06, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Oscar Monroe Brooks, 88, life-long resident of Blanchard, died Monday, May 6, 2019, in Blanchard. The son of O.M. Brooks and Bonnie (Bowling) Brooks, he was born August 28, 1930 in Blanchard. He graduated from Blanchard High School in 1950.

Oscar served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a warehouse supervisor for the FAA and retired after 34 years of service. He married the love of his life, LaVon Swanson, on June 7, 1949 in Blanchard.

Oscar was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Blanchard. He served on the City Council for one term and served on the Blanchard School Board for more than 20 years. He coached baseball for over 40 years and announced the Blanchard football games for 53 years.

Oscar was an avid fan and supporter of all Blanchard and OU athletics. His favorite places to be were at the Blanchard baseball or football field, or at Owen Field in Norman. Oscar volunteered at the elementary school and said that it was the best thing he had done in his lifetime.

He was so proud of the hundreds of little friends that he had made. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaVon Brooks; a grandson, Kristian Brooks; two sisters, Monte Gray and Grace Nuckels.

He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Hager and Rhonda Brooks; one son, David Brooks, all of Blanchard; seven grandchildren, Staci McCoy and her husband, Jody, of Edmond, Ricky Hager of Norman, Stephania Grober and her husband, Brian, of Tulsa, Jill Northington of Blanchard, Lance Northington and his wife, Katharine, of Norman, Kyle Mulkey and his wife, Katie, of Oklahoma City, and Aaron Brooks of Norman; five great grandchildren, Gracie McCoy, Brooks Grober, Macy Hodges, Taylon Northington, and Conner Northington; one great great grandchild, Jayden Hodges; two brothers, George Brooks and his wife, LaMoyne and Sedall Brooks and his wife, Rosetta, all of Blanchard; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 13, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Blanchard. Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery.
