Obituary for Osmara Manzano OSMARA REYES MANZANO Osmara was born September 9, 1930 in Manzanillo, Cuba. She was the third eldest in a family of 7 children. Osmara grew up in Manzanillo, and was a naturally gifted artist and painter.

Her dream was to attend the Arts Institute at the University in Havana but, coming from an old, traditional Cuban family, she respected her family’s wish and chose to remain in Manzanillo. She worked at her uncle’s general store instead, where she met her first husband, Mario Ramos. Osmara and Mario married in 1953, and moved to Rancho Bollero on the outskirts of Havana.

Mario was a captain for Cubana, Cuba’s international airlines. She and Mario welcomed two children, Alicia Maria and Mario Luis. When Castro’s Revolution took place in the late 1950’s, arrangements were made to leave Cuba for the United States to seek political asylum.

Osmara and her two children arrived in Miami, Florida in October of 1960. Her husband Mario arrived six months later to begin their new life in the U.S. Aside from her natural talent in the arts, Osmara was also a very gifted seamstress, having learned to sew from the age of 12. This talent served her well over the years as she became very well known amongst the Cuban community in Miami, particularly among the well-connected and wealthier residents.

She became a private seamstress to many. Osmara divorced in 1971, and remarried in 1974 to Manuel Manzano. She suffered the loss of her son, Mario in 1981.

Her marriage to Manolo was a happy one, that lasted till his death in 2012. It was during this time that Osmara was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. It was due to this disease that she ultimately moved to Texas to live with, and later, near her daughter Alicia, and son-in-law Ignacio Fernandez.

Osmara is survived by her daughter, Alicia Ramos Fernandez and two younger brothers, Enrique, and Alberto Reyes, her grandchildren Ivan, Alexander, and Andre’ Fernandez and Katherine Ramos, great-grandchildren Giulianna, Daniella and Elliot Fernandez, as well as many nieces, nephews and a few great-nieces and great-nephews as well. She was well-loved by all her family and friends, and will be deeply missed. Today’s Events Visitation DEC 18.
