Pamela’s Obituary Pamela Yvonne Edgett, 71, of Norton, Kansas passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. Pam was born in Norton on May 7, 1947 to Kenneth and Geraldine (Cochran) Corns. She spent her early childhood growing up on Army bases in Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Alaska.
She returned to Norton at age 13, graduating from Norton Community High School. She attended St. Mary’s of the Plains College in Dodge City, Kansas where she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree. She worked at the Norton County Hospital as an LPN and Surgical Scrub Nurse taking emergency call back for 43 years until she retired.
Pam missed the nursing field and caring for patients, so she found her new calling at Whispering Pines in Norton for an additional 10 years until her health forced her to retire permanently. In 1970, each morning on her way to work or when she was getting off work, Pam would see this handsome fellow at the gas pump. One day she stopped to get gas, and asked him to go on a date.
After the third date he asked, “so when are we going to get married? ” Pam said she wanted a long engagement and after eighteen months, Pam married that handsome fellow, Lloyd “Elvin” Edgett, on September 12, 1971 in Norton, Kansas. They were married for 47 years.
On September 6, 1972, Pam and Elvin welcomed Stacie Lynn into this world. Stacie was the apple of her mother’s eye. She supported her in everything she did, always lent an ear, gave advice and even some Stacie didn’t like.
Mother and daughter were two peas in a pod when it came to shopping and looking for bargains and were experts at filling vehicles to the brim with purchases. Pam was definitely not short on words as anyone that knew her quickly learned and, as we all know, passed that gene on to Stacie as well. Stacie’s friends were loved and accepted by Pam and were always at their house.
Gayleen Chickering, was one of those friends that Pam adopted and accepted as her own daughter. Pam and Elvin created a marriage many wished and dreamed of and were each other’s biggest supporters in the good times and bad and especially in the most recent weeks. They enjoyed traveling all across the United States in Elvin’s 1954 Kaiser Frazer Manhattan, sightseeing and attending car shows with Stacie, Carter, Cooper and the nieces and nephews.
Pam was a woman with many talents and hobbies including: baking; canning; sewing; gardening; and remodeling. Her baking was second to none and she was known for a few special recipes including: Christmas butterhorns; sour dough pancakes; sour cream sugar cookies; and pinwheels. She loved to share her knowledge of baking, even showing Cooper how to roll and cut cookies for the family to enjoy and gave him a cookbook with her handwritten recipes.
She was fearless when it came to power tools and hammers: tearing out or moving walls or removing two front windows Elvin didn’t know were going to be removed until he came home from work. She had a true knack for making the old house look new and it always turned out just like she had planned in the end, or so, she always said. Pam loved the Christmas season decorating every nook and cranny of her home.
She always decorated the most beautiful trees entirely in Hallmark ornaments. She was a collector of many things including Longaberger baskets, Hallmark ornaments, and Tupperware. In 2002 and in 2005, Pam’s life changed when her grandsons, Carter and Cooper were born.
She loved them “more than you’ll ever know” and was always seen at their events from school to sports to their faith. She always encouraged and reminded them how special they were to her. Two grand-daughters were brought into Pam’s family when Gayleen and Clay Chickering welcomed Addison and Morgan into their family.
She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, and Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic. Survivors include her husband, Elvin of the home; daughter, Stacie Minson, WaKeeney; grandsons, Carter & Cooper Minson, WaKeeney; sister, Deborah (John) Lindenman, Morland; brother, David Corns, Norton; sister-in-law Linda (Cal) Fritz, Hildreth, NE; aunt, Marcia Cochran, Norton; nieces, Tammy (Roger) VanLoenen and family, Hill City; Amaryah (Skyler) Jenkins, Grand Island, NE; Carina Fritz, Hildreth, NE; and nephews, Shawn (Melissa Lindenman and family, Morland; Cory (Beth) Lindenman and family, Winfield; Brent Lindenman family; Gayleen (Clay) Chickering, Addison and Morgan, Glenwood, IA; and special friend Kay (Mike) Snodgrass. Pam is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth & Geraldine Corns; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold & Fern Yearka; brother-in-law, Lynn Yearka; and grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Burial will follow at the Norton City Cemetery in Norton at approximately 2pm. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.
