Patricia J Cox passed peacefully with her family at her side on December 27, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center after a long illness. Patricia was born on September 17, 1933 in Queens, NY to Joseph and Mary Quirk. Pat attended Dominican Academy and then College of St. Mary of the Springs, later to be named Ohio Dominican University.

Pat and John started… Read More » their family in Queens, moved to Syosset, NY before crossing the river to move to Morristown, NJ in 1964. Pat spent many years as a devoted teacher in the elementary schools within the Morris School District.

She also volunteered at the Bargain Box, Eva’s Community Village in Paterson, the Interfaith Food Pantry and supporting the homeless in Morris County. As long time parishioners at Christ The King in New Vernon. Pat and John were the first recipients from Christ the King to receive The Vivere Christus Award, which is an award from the Diocese of Paterson acknowledging the value and importance of the laity by expressing gratitude and appreciation to those who unselfishly give of themselves for the building of God’s Kingdom.

Patricia was very devoted to her family, Christian community and her many friends on Frederick Place. She was particularly proud of teaching and living in the same community. She enjoyed walking around the Green in Morristown and bumping into her current students and loved seeing former students or their parents to get updates on her their activities.

She took great pleasure supporting her 12 grandchildren and attending extracurricular activities, whether they be sporting events or recitals. She enjoyed hosting the family at her house any time, especially the holidays and preparing a nice home cooked meal. Vacations were very special to her, whether they be at the Jersey Shore, at her daughter’s house in Long Island or “The Farm” in Bainbridge, NY.

She was devoted to her family, community and her faith. Pat is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John, daughter, Mary Ellen (Lou); Jack (Lisa); Jim (Deborah); Kenneth (Karen); grandchildren, Timothy, Louis (Christina), Julia, Jacquelyn, Joseph, Mary Elizabeth, Caileigh, Ryan, Brendan, Connor, Brady and Jack. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary and brother Joseph.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of Christ the King, New Vernon NJ. Burial will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Doyle Funeral Home, Morristown NJ.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Morristown Medical Center and especially, Dr. Carla Dicenzo-Flynn, MD, her staff and LuAnn, Patricia’s visiting nurse, for years of kindness and care.
