Celebrating the life of Mrs. Patricia “Patsy” Trigg Turner of Tampa, Florida whose soul took flight to return to the Lord on on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 will be held Monday, February 18th, 6:00 p.m. at The Christian Life Center at New Hope M.B. Church, 3005 E. Ellicott St., Rev. James Richardson, officiating. Patsy, as she was affectionately known, was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Edgar Allen Trigg, Sr. and Cora Ella Langford.
At an early age, she and her family migrated to Buffalo, New York where she received formal academic training in the public schools. After graduation, she joined the United States Air Force and served as a Flight Attendant for two years. It was during this period she met Edward Lee Turner of Jackson, Mississippi, a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force.
Shortly thereafter, they married and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. While there, she earned credentials to become a registered nurse. Her focus was heart and lungs, earning her the title of Nurse Educator.
Their next assignment took them to Japan for three years where Patsy enjoyed learning the culture and language of the Japanese. Their last military move took them to McGuire Air Force base in Willingboro, New Jersey where they remained for thirty-two years. Edward died years later, leaving Patsy to decide whether to remain in New Jersey.
After much thought, she began making plans to move to a warmer climate to be nearer other relatives; first to Ocala and then to Tampa. In conversation, Patsy would say that the highlight of moving to Tampa was meeting members of her beloved New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Patsy’s life was exciting and meaningful!
She had been a flight attendant, registered nurse, developer and manager of the Black Heritage Festival Healthcare tent for ten years, host of the “Nurse Patsy” radio show on WTMP, and volunteer health instructor at several Hillsborough County Public Schools. While she enjoyed all these opportunities to serve, her most profound and satisfying love was when she served God and man in her roles with the Healthcare Ministry, President of the Adult Choir, President of the Day Mission and a “doorkeeper” with the Usher Board number 5 New Hope M.B. Church! Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Master Sergeant (U.S. Ret.
) Edward Lee Turner; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Allen Trigg, Sr.; brothers, Edgar Allen, Jr., Simon Peter and Dennis Kirk Trigg and niece, Tamora Russell. She leaves cherished memories with her loving sister, Phyllis F. Trigg Tolliver; cousins, Edward Simpkins (Alice), Mildred Overton (Sterling) and Roberta Hinton; many nieces and nephews including, Micah Smith (Eric), Kimberly Trigg-Allen (Wesley) and Gairee Trigg (Donna). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Patricia Turner’s honor to: The United Negro College Fund and Gulfside Hospice Center, 5760 Dean Dairy Road, Zephyrhills, Florida.
