OBITUARY Patricia Reed Englishbee-Sumner March 17, 1937 – September 24, 2018 Patricia Reed Englishbee-Sumner At age 81, Patsy passed into Eternal Life on September 24, 2018 Patsy was born in Houston, TX on St Patrick’s day 1937, the youngest of three children. Living in the house that her father had built, her mother worked hard as the sole support of the family of four. This struggle had a huge impact on her growing up years eventually forging her into the mighty entrepreneurial spirit that marked her latter life.

Ernest Englishbee and Patsy Reed married in 1952 when Ernest returned from the Korean Conflict and together they raised 6 children. After working for the Durham Clinic in the Heights, Patsy marshalled that savvy for business and with her builder husband beside her, launched a daycare business that blossomed into a safe harbor for many families of North Central Houston. Their homestead in Aldine, TX has just passed its 60th year.

The business started in 1978 as Stay & Play Daycare and soon the daycare was operating 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week, helping to care for not only the original children, but their children and grandchildren. This year Patsy passed her 40th year in the daycare and preschool business, serving children and their respective schools in Aldine, Spring, and Humble areas. Patsy is preceded in death by both brothers and two sons, Ernest Jr. and John.

Her husband of 26 years, John Sumner, and four children survive her: Suzan Wootton of Cypress, Mary Hill of Houston, Joe Ann Huddleston of the Dallas area, and Mark Englishbee of Waller, as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Despite their business success, Ernest and Patsy’s greatest heritage is the Christian Faith and Fellowship they embraced that make it possible for the family and friends left behind to live with quiet Peace at their leaving this earthly scene and a growing Hope for Heaven.
