Patrick’s Obituary Patrick Joseph Kane, 90, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully after an unexpected illness on Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at Yale University Hospital, New Haven, CT. He was the husband of the late Ann T. (Hanly) Kane. Born in Belfast, Ireland, on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1928, Patrick immigrated from Ireland in 1930 with his mother Catherine and his brother, Austin.
He was the son of the late Joseph P. and Catherine (Devlin) Kane. Patrick was raised in Warwick, RI and was a graduate of Aldrich High School where he was class President and a four-sport varsity athlete. He excelled in sports including football, basketball, baseball and Track and Field.
Patrick served his country and is an Army Veteran. He served two tours including in the Korean Conflict. He visited several European and Asia-Pacific countries during his tours.
In September of 1954, he married Ann Teresa Hanly of Warwick. Patrick and Ann quickly started a family of six children and raised their large family in Warwick, RI, Melrose, MA, Foxboro, MA and North Kingstown, RI. During these years Patrick loved to referee high school basketball, golf with friends and was President of the South County Chapter of Friendly Sons of St. Patrick from 1981-1982.
Patrick has many relatives in Ireland and was able to visit family on several occasions. He was a dedicated employee of New England Telephone for 40 years where finished his career as the Manager of Regulatory Affairs for the State of Rhode Island. After retirement, he and his wife Ann enjoyed life in Narragansett, RI and Naples, FL for many years during the winter months.
Pat was a true Irishman gentleman who was very dedicated to his wife, children, family and many friends. He loved to spend time with family and friends, play golf, watch his favorite Boston sports teams and listen to Irish music with a pint at his favorite Pub Pancho O’Malley’s in Narragansett. He is survived by his children, Nora C. Kane of Narragansett, Kathleen Martyniak of Foxboro, MA, Patrick J. Kane, Jr. of Pawtucket, Maureen Manuel of Brewster, NY, Christine Haskins of Florham Park, NJ and Josephine K. Maguire of Franklin, MA; grandchildren, Carley Martyniak Drummy, Brooke Martyniak, Caroline Haskins, Conor Haskins, Kelsey Maguire, John Kane and Gavin Maguire and father-in-law of Scott Martyniak, Karen Kane, Randy Manuel, Craig Haskins and Brian Maguire.
He was the brother of the late Austin Kane. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 4, 2019, at 11 am in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Rd, Narragansett.
Burial with military honors will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Exeter. Visiting hours Thursday, January 3, 2019, 4-7 pm in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
