Obituary for Paul David Sambol Paul David Sambol, 88, a lifelong resident of Donora, passed away with his loving family by his side on Monday, November 5, 2018 in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born in Donora on April 12, 1930, Paul was a son to the late Paul D. and Mary Brokup Sambol. Mr. Sambol was a retired highway engineer for PennDOT where designed roads for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
He was Catholic by faith and a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Donora. A Veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Staff Sgt. for the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Sambol received the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Paul was an exceptional gardener who enjoyed woodworking and loved spending time with his grandsons and great-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings; Joseph, John, Steve, William, Eva, and Ann. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rita (Sadler) Sambol; his daughter, Suzanne “Sue” (Craig) Corbin of Cumming, GA; two grandsons, Sam (Valerie) Bradford and Dalton Corbin; one great-grandson, Lewis Bradford; two sisters, Susan Petrus of Ohio and Mary Kassa of Donora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC. , 40 Second St. Ext. , Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018.
Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Donora. Interment will follow in St. Dominic Cemetery, Donora. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept.
