With great sorrow and heartbreak, on the morning of Sunday, July 22, 2018, we lost Peggy Jean Patterson-Miller, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt, following her battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born February 11, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York, Peggy was the second of three children born to Geneva Patterson and Dock Willie Bostic. A natural teacher, Peggy possessed the ability to touch the lives of every person she encountered.

This ability led to a lifelong career in teaching and Speech Pathology where she impacted the lives of countless children and others through therapy and education. Furthermore, her ability to touch others extended beyond her career as she interacted with friends and family as a mentor, Sunday School teacher, advisor, and parent to her own children and others. Even more than her compassion towards others was her love and reverence for God and her family.

She dutifully cared for her mother Geneva and brother Jerome, and served as a faithful wife to Rev. David J. Miller for forty-three years. She was a proud mother to her sons: Askia, Sonni-Ali, Bakori and her stepdaughter Akia.

She cherished being a grandmother to her three granddaughters: Summer, Eliza and Yazarah, each of whom she loved with every fiber of her being. She was a beloved aunt and cousin who always had an open door for her loved ones, especially her sister Barbara; nieces: Raquel, Darlene, Nyishah, Tamika, Tanya, Narcisa, Danielle and Ajene; nephews: William and Derrick; and cousins: Mark and Makiri. Hardworking, tenacious, entrepreneurial, scholarly and compassionate, Peggy’s legacy is cemented in the countless individuals and her loved ones whom she has inspired education-ally.
