Peter Hugh Welvang September 27, 1934 – February 05, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Welvang Peter Hugh Age 84 of St. Paul Our patriarch passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s and dementia. Born on September 27, 1934 in St. Paul, MN, Pete was a graduate of Cretin H.S. class of ’52, a Korean War veteran, and owner of Leaflet Missal Co. for 40 years. Pete’s guiding rule was his Catholic faith.

As a publisher and retailer of Catholic books and gifts, Pete inspired many to a stronger faith in God. In recognition of this work, Pete and his wife Diane received the ‘Catholic Servants of the Year’ award in 1996. He and Diane were also members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher.

Pete is now reunited with his beloved wife Diane, parents Norman and Adelaide Welvang; sister and brother-in-law Norma and Bob Walker, brothers-in-law Dennis and Paul Pesek and sister-in-law Dolores Wind. Pete will be dearly missed by his children, Ann (Kevin) Abbott, Mary (Mark) Hennen, Mark Gerard, Catherine Furlong, Paul (Susan) Welvang, Susan (Keevin) Furlong; grandchildren, Jennifer, Bridget, Matthew, Rachel, Sam, Annie, Kiki, Amy, Michael, Katie, Shannon, Emily, John and Joseph; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Teri (Bob) McDonnell and Mary (Bob) Hermes, in-laws, Bob Wind and Teruko Pesek; nieces and nephews from the Barry, Hermes, Walker and Wind families, as well as many friends and former employees. A special thank you to Pete’s caregivers for their loving care.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Saturday, February 9, 2019 at THE CHURCH OF ST. AGNES (535 Thomas Ave. W., St. Paul).

Visitation from 9:30 AM until time of Mass at the church in the Maria Hilf Chapel. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Cradle of Hope or Parkinson’s Foundation.
