Obituary of Peter Devlin Peter Joseph “Pete” Devlin, 57, of Howell Township, the rock and foundation of his family, died on Sunday, June 3, 2018. He was born on February 26, 1961 in Paterson, NJ. The third of four children, Pete was the first natural born American in the family, something of which he was always proud.

He moved to Howell in 1962 where he attended Ramtown Elementary, graduated Howell HS in 1979 and attended Brookdale College for a brief stint. Pete then decided that he could better serve the world by working with his dad, starting and maintaining the successful construction business, Devlin & Sons. Pete was loved by all who knew him, helped those in need, and tried to make the world a better place.

His constant smile and love of life burned brightly and he saw positivity in every situation. Pete was a force for good. He was a true Renaissance man enjoying whatever life had to offer and sharing it with all who showed interest.

Pete maintained a dirt “track” for friends and neighbors to hone motocross riding skills and could often be found traveling the racing circuit just to follow a favorite passion. He loved nothing more than being on the ocean with his family, whether on a boat or a jet-ski. He also enjoyed building and restoring cars.

Pete loved a good backyard party and could belt out some of the greatest songs, although often off key, but always loud and confident. Pete was predeceased by his father, Peter Devlin in 1991; his mother, Mary Devlin in 2015; mother-in-law, Amelia Meola; and a brother-in-law, Alfred Meola, III. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rose Marie Devlin of Howell; son, Peter Devlin and his fiancé, Amanda Miele of Howell; daughter, Alicia Devlin of Howell; siblings, Heather Van Vliet and her husband, Herb of Toms River, Mary Milchanowski and her husband, Mike of Manasquan, and Stuart Devlin and his wife, Teresa of Howell; nephews, Michael, Peter, David, Stuart, AJ, Willie, and Cole; nieces, Allison, Evelyn, Jamie, Lindsay, and their children; father-in-law, Alfred Meola of Howell; brother-in-law, Paul Meola and his wife, Nora of Auburndale, FL; a sister-in-law; Mary Meola; and his faithful canine co-pilot, Miley.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:30 PM with his funeral service to follow at 7:30 PM. Interment will be private. A celebration of life will be held at the Devlin home on Sunday, June 17, 2018 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM.
