Fischer, 72, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:50 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2019, at his residence. Phillip worked at Consol Burning Star #4 coal mine as a dragline operator. He was a member of the UMWA and Elks Lodge 884.

Phillip was born July 14, 1946, in Du Quoin, the son of Harry and Margaret (Smith) Fischer. He married Jo Ann Mounce on October 10, 1964, at the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church, and she preceded him in death on December 27, 2017. Phillip is survived by two children – Andi Benedict and husband Lance of Normal, IL and Bruce Fischer and wife Kendra of Herrin, IL, five grandchildren – Summer Fischer of Herrin, Emma Fischer of Du Quoin, Taylor Dahl-Simmons of Du Quoin, Jaiden Provart of Du Quoin and Landes Benedict of Normal, one great grandchild – Aiden Stein, two sisters – Sally Baronowski and husband Ski of Henderson, NV and Cathy McClanahan of Du Quoin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife – Jo Ann Fischer. Friends may make memorials to the Perry County Humane Society, and will be accepted at the funeral home. Per Phillip’s request, cremation services were held with no public services.
