Phyllis Cox of Hingham, MA, daughter of Rose and Phil Ciciarelli, passed away on January 4th, 2019 at the age of 75 from non-smoker’s lung cancer. The wife of 53 years of Dr. Jim Cox (her best friend), Phyllis is survived by her daughter Dr. Kimberleigh Cox and husband Dr. Jason Montour of San Rafael CA, son Dr. Chris Cox and wife Dr. Teri Miner of Kingston MA, son Phil Cox and wife Kim of McLean VA, and brother Dr. John Ciciarelli and wife Nina of Wall, NJ. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren: Owen, Ella, and Nora Cox; Devin and Cooper Montour; and Scarlett and Jordan Cox as well as her adored Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

Phyllis also valued her many supportive friends. Phyllis grew up on Oahu and attended Punahou until the family moved to Longmeadow, MA, where she graduated from high school, followed by Brown University (Class of ‘65) and the MGH Institute of Health Professions graduate medical social work program. She worked for over 35 years as a medical social worker and also taught yoga for over 20 years, mentoring many teachers.

She volunteered at her kids’ schools and activities, served on the Board of Registration and Licensure for MA Social Workers, and interviewed for Brown University for many years. As the “adult who played,” Phyllis loved entertaining her grandchildren. An avid reader, she also enjoyed walking her dogs daily, working out and practicing yoga with friends, gardening, learning to play bridge, and following Boston sports teams.

She loved traveling to warmer climates, including Bermuda, Turks and Caicos, Hawaii, Virginia, Marin County, CA, and Tanzania. At her request, Phyllis will be cremated and there will be a Celebration of Life at Jones River Trading Post in Kingston, MA at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 12th. In her memory, Phyllis requests that you play with your kids and grandkids, walk your dogs, and/or practice yoga.
