Obituary for Mrs. Priscilla L. Beirne Priscilla Long Walker Beirne was born in Hartford, CT on July 23, 1929. When she was six weeks old she came to Baltimore, where her father Dr. Perrin H. Long, had taken a position in the Department of medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital Mrs. Beirne attended Roland Park Country School from kindergarten to the twelfth grade; she then attended Radcliff College for two years. In 1949 her marriage tp Patrick H. Walker was announced.

Mrs. Beirne transferred to Goucher College and graduated in 1951. In 1951 she began her teaching career at Roland Park Public School. Her husband had enlisted in the Army and attended O.C.S. training at Fort Benning, GA.

Mr. Walker was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY where Mrs. Walker taught at South Christian High School. In 1955 the Walkers returned to Baltimore. Mrs. Walker taught at Fortview Junior High at Hudson and Highland Streets until 1958.

She had two children and returned to teaching in 1966 at Northern High School, where she taught English until 1974. In 1968 she and her family moved to Hydes, MD. In 1975 she began teaching at Harford Day Scool in Bel Air.

She and Mr. Walker divorced. In 1983 she took a three week trip to China where she began a life long interest. In December of 1984 she married D. Randall Beirne.

In 1985 she started teaching ESOL classes to mothers at the Johns Hopkins Co-Op nursery school. She also taught at the English Language School at Notre Dame College and for Baltimore County. In 1986 she joined the Xiamen Sister City Committee.

She was an active member in the organization for the next fifteen years. She enjoyed playing tennis, actively reading with The Miss Healy Book Club from 1987-2016 and traveling extensively with Mr. Beirne, visiting Russia, Czechoslovakia, Germany, and the British Isle. Mr. Beirne died in 2010.

Mrs. Beirne is survived by her two children Patrick H. Walker of Appomattox, VA and Elizabeth G. Cochran of Baltimore, three step-children Elizabeth B. Lippitt and her husband Alexander of Oak Park, IL, Mary B. Pearre and her husband Peter of Union Bridge and Daniel R. Beirne and his wife Betty of Reisterstown. Along with 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 11:00AM, at St. David’s Church, 4700 Roland Ave.
