Obituary for Rae Dubois Graham Rae Dubois Graham passed away on July 12, 2018 ending an almost 95-year reign full of sequins and sparkles. Known by her grandchildren as Rae Rae, she resided in the same five-mile radius of Miami for over 70 years. She was a long time resident of Bay Heights and later Grove Isle, eventually moving to the Palace Coral Gables.
Rae Rae was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the oldest of Max and Sare DuBois’ six children, on August 31, 1923. She met and married the father of her three sons, Dr. George Graham, and in 1945 settled in Miami. She later married and adored her second husband, David Schneider, who predeceased her.
Rae Rae was a vibrant presence in the Miami community, active in Eastern Star, Temple Israel Sisterhood and the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Michael (Cathi), Lee (Moira), Dr. Jon (Jan), her sister Millie Selko (Soll), and her brothers Austin DuBois (Sandye) and Stanford DuBois. She was beloved by her many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Nicole, Maxwell (Mackenzie), Eli, Sydney, Jacob, Eliza, Eva and Mordechai, as well as her great grandson, Logan. She also leaves her devoted dog Sarabelle, who she thought of as the daughter she never had. Rae adored her grandchildren and grew to love her daughter in laws.
But it was her three remarkable sons, Michael Fred, Lee Harold and Jon Wessley, who were always first in her heart. They were the true lights of her life and are an extraordinary reflection of her in many ways. She was famous for “making” fabulous parties, writing invitations with clever rhymes and making sure a fantastic time was had by all.
Rae loved fashion and shopping (especially bargain hunting! ), turning heads with her signature style everywhere she went. She was frequently stopped on the street by strangers admiring her personalized sequin hats and ties.
Rae was an avid athlete and enjoyed skiing, tennis and golf. A talented artist, Rae was also gifted with musical abilities and her vocals and piano stylings were the highlight of many celebrations. Singing and dancing were near mandatory at her beautiful home.
She also traveled the world, collecting memories with her lucky travel companions. She was world renowned for not holding back her opinion, telling the truth whether you liked it or not. She fascinated everyone who met her and intimidated more than a few.
You never had to wonder where you stood with her, as she would always let you know. Her family and friends loved her dearly. It will be impossible for us to forget her tenacity, charm, wit, grace (when needed) and her fierce love for all her devoted fans.
A world without Rae DuBois Graham will truly be lacking a superstar. There will be a celebration of her life on July 13 at 11:30 am at the Palace Coral Gables (1 Andalusia Ave, Coral Gables, Florida 33134) following a 10:00 am Graveside Service at Graceland Memorial Park North (4420 SW 8th Street, Miami, Florida 33134).
