Randolph Carlyle Mullins, 74, passed away on March 20th at MorseLife Health Center after a seven-year battle with CBGD, a rare neurological disease. He leaves behind Pamela Mullins, his wife of 19 years. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, he was the son of Carl Stinson Mullins and Era Hinkle Mullins.

He is predeceased by brothers Charles Gilbert (Gil) Mullins and David Carl Mullins. Remaining family includes brother Richard (Moon) Mullins and partner Karren LaHue of The Villages, Florida, nieces Misti Mullins of Boston, Mindi Mullins Taylor of Princeton, West Virginia, Michelle M. Esbenshade of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and nephew Michael B. Mullins of Nampa, Idaho. He attended Bluefield High School, graduated from West Virginia University, and served four years in the navy.

In 1972, Randy began training horses at Ogleby Park Stables in Wheeling, West Virginia. He moved to Germantown, Tennessee where he started New Venture Farm. As a respected trainer of hunter-jumpers, he became a passionate mentor of many award-winning riders.

In 2012 Randy and Pam moved permanently to Wellington, Florida. Randy was a member of the US Equestrian Federation (USEF) and US Hunter Jumpers Association (USHJA). He was a licensed Hunter Jumper judge for the USEF and judged prestigious shows for over 40 years, including Devon, Harrisburg, Washington and New York, and all major medal finals.

In 2018 he was inducted into the National Show Hunter Association Hall of Fame. Services will be Monday, March 25th at 4 p.m. at St. David’s in the Pines, 465 W. Forest Hill Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD).

Coming from a family in the coal business, Randy was known for his saying, “A bad day at the horse show is still better than a good day in the coal mines”.
