Obituary for Raul Torres Raul “Grandpa Cat” Torres was born on July 7, 1925 to Jose Torres and Maria Guadalupe Pena Torres in Laredo, Texas. He later married Eufemia Botello and together they had four children – Manuel, Margarita, Miguel and Martin. Eufemia tragically died of cancer in her 30’s making Raul a very young widower.
In 1959 Raul moved his children “The four M’s” to Fresno, Ca. “the agriculture capital of the world” and started a new career in the farming business; first picking chile peppers, onions and grapes and later becoming a farm labor contractor and bookkeeper. Raul enjoyed playing cards, slot machines, music and making people laugh.
He had a great sense of humor which he credited his mother for and often claimed that there wasn’t anything that couldn’t be cured with laughter. Raul was charming and a real character. Raul departed this life on June 23, 2018 and was proceeded in death by his wife Eufemia Torres and son Martin Torres.
He is survived by his 3 children, Manuel Torres Sr., Margarita Sepulveda and Miguel Torres and 8 grandchildren, Genevieve Castillo, Manuel Torres Jr., Steven Torres, Martin Torres, Estella Torres, Joaquin Torres, Tobias Torres and Troy Torres. The family would like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time and a special thank you to the staff at Dycora Nursing Home for their great care. Visitation will be held at Chapel of the Light Funeral Home on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A vigil service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
