In Loving Memory of Raymond Edward Vogt Jr., Born October 26, 1937, went to be with the Lord on April 27, 2019, at the age of 81. Ray, raised in Erie, Pa. , graduated from Academy High School in 1955.

He married Judith in 1959 and moved to Sunnyvale, California in 1964. Ray had many children, Sons: Ray III, Gregg (Anne), Eric, Paul (Hiroe), Richard (Janet), Daniel (Rebecca), and Drew. He also had 2 daughters: Corky and Sara (Rex).

His children gave him 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson. The grandchildren were always a of great pride and joy for him. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Charlotte Vogt and his second wife Joan Spengler.

Serving in the Army National Guard, Ray was a sharpshooter, trained as a medic (skills later most often applied to his children) and he played football, as a lineman on the Army’s competitive team as well. In civilian life, Ray was an avid handball player and for many years ran tournaments at the San Jose YMCA. Loving to travel with his large family, the stories of Ray’s adventures were legendary amongst his family and friends.

Always on the go, boating, gardening, and hiking could also be found on his life’s agenda. He and his family always had an “open door”, so holidays generally consisted of countless friends and family members often gathering into sizable events. Frequently he and Judy took in strangers needing a little help.

No matter what the outcome, Ray’s desire to help others never dwindled. Because of all this, Ray and his family were twice voted Family of The Year. Ray was a devoted Christian, attending church regularly.

For many years he attended and led Christian fellowship groups and served as the President of the Sunnyvale Chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s fellowship with ministry outreaches, not only to businessmen but also to the inmates in Soledad prison. Later in life, Ray spent many years living in Clayton, CA. There he married Joan, played in Bocce Ball leagues, and as he had done all of his life was very active in his church.

Battling Alzheimer’s, Ray was eventually moved to a fulltime memory-care residence in Manteca and then later to the CalVet Veteran’s Home in Fresno, Ca. Interment services will be held Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, Ca. May 15, 2019, followed by a memorial gathering and luncheon at the South End Rowing Club in San Francisco’s Aquatic Park.
